How to Change Your WiFi Name and Password
Changing your WiFi name SSID and password is one of the best things you can do to keep your network secure. Here’s how to do it:

- Log into your Motorola router like we just did above.
- On the dashboard, select Wireless >Primary Network Settings.
- Enter your new SSID name in the Network Name (SSID) field.
- Enter and create a strong password in the Passphrase field.
- Click Apply to save changes.
Note: The steps performed above applies to Motorola SBG6580, so if you see a different web interface on your end, its totally fine. Also, your devices will disconnect after you change the password, so you’ll need to reconnect them using the new info.
How to Reset Your Motorola Router
If you’re locked out or things are really glitchy, a reset might be your best bet. Just keep in mind that a factory reset will wipe everything back to factory settings, so only do it if you really need to.
Here’s how:
- Find the reset button on the back of the router. It’s a small pinhole.
- Use something like a paperclip to press and hold it for about 10 seconds.
- When you see the lights blink, release it.
- Wait for the router to reboot, and that’s it! The router has been reset.
Note: After the reset, use the default username and password to log in again.
Common Login Issues and Fixes
If things aren’t working smoothly, don’t panic as you can fix these issues easily with the right troubleshooting techniques. Here are a few problems you might run into and how to deal with them:
- IP Address issues: If you don’t know what your router’s IP address is you can use
ipconfig(on Windows) to check your Default Gateway. You can also check the back of the router to verify the correct IP address. - Forgot login info: Check the back of your router for the default credentials or perform a factory data reset it if you’ve changed them and forgotten.
- Login page is not loading: Probably your browser is not compatible with the IP address. Try a different browser or clear your cache. You can also try restarting your device.
- Network is not connecting: Instead of connecting via WiFi network ,switch to a wired connection or restart your router to refresh the signal.
- Too many failed login attempts: You might have to wait a bit before trying again. But if you recall cant recall your login details, go ahead and do a reset the router.
