pfSense router login lets you access your router’s admin panel for network and configuration settings. When you log in at http://192.168.1.1, you change your SSID name, WiFi password, and other default router settings.
How to Login to pfSense Router
To configure your router settings, you must first log in. To do it, here are the steps you can follow:
Step 1: Connect your Device to the Router
The first step to take is to connect your device to the router, whether a PC or a laptop. To do it, connect the ethernet cable from the ethernet port of the device to the LAN port of the router. If you don’t have an ethernet cable connected to the WiFi network instead.

How to Change SSID Name and Password
As mentioned above, it is best to change your WiFi password and SSID first in order to protect your network; therefore, make sure to do it as soon as you receive your router. To perform it, you can follow the steps below:
- Open your browser and type 192.168.1.1 in the address bar correctly.
- Check if the IP address is correct, then press Enter on your keyboard.
- Go to Interfaces > WAN.
- In the SSID field, enter your new network name.
- In the WPA Pre-Shared Key field, enter your new password.
- Click Save.
If you haven’t created a wireless interface before, you cannot configure the SSID and WiFi password. Do these steps before changing the network name and password.
- Create a Wireless Interface by selecting Interfaces > Assignments.
- Go to Wireless and click Add.
- For wired connection, select the mode as Infrastructure (BSS) or Access Point for wireless connections.
- Add a description, but this is optional. After adding a description, click Save.
- Next, go to Interface Assignments.
- Select the Network Port you created as WAN in the Network Port drop-down, and click Save.
How to Reset Your pfSense Router
You can reset your pfSense router through the GUI by following the steps below:
- From the admin menu, select Diagnostics > Factory Defaults.
- Review the settings that will be affected by the reset.
- Click Factory Reset
- Click OK, and the reset will begin.
- You will notice the router LEDs turn off and the router reboots.
Login Issues and Troubleshooting with pfSense Router
Here are the most common login issues you may encounter when logging in to your pfSense router and their solutions:
- Network Connectivity issues: Check if the IP address is correctly entered in the browser’s address bar. A firewall can also cause network issues, so check the log for blocked connections, find the rule that is causing the problem, and adjust it accordingly.
- Wrong username and password: If you face this issue, you can either check the back of the router for the default username and password or reset your router to factory settings.
- The site does not load: If your IP address is incorrectly entered in the browser, the site will not load. Clear the address bar and Peter the correct IP address. You can search the IP address online or find at the back of your router.
